Active Volcano Fagradalsfjall / Geirdalur

Reykjanes Peninsula Geopark

Kleifarvatn Lake

Seltún Geothermal Area

Once in a lifetime experience!
Hike to the active volcano in Geldingadalur / Fagradalsfjall with a geologist.

Iceland is a volcanic island and experiences 20-30 earthquakes per day and a volcanic eruption on average every 10-15 years. Usually, the eruptions take place in remote places that are difficult to access. The active volcano in Fagradalsfjall is happening in the backyard of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, and is very easy to reach. We are offering a hike to the volcano with a geologist and a tour around the Reykjanes Peninsula where the eruption is taking place. You have an option to be dropped off at the Blue Lagoon on the way back to Reykjavík. We can also book a Blue Lagoon comfort ticket for you and a ticket with the Blue Lagoon destination bus back to Reykjavík.

Tour Program

9:00 AM – REYKJAVÍK
Pick up at your accommodation around 9.00 AM, or meet us at bus stop number 8, next to Hallgrímskirkja church. Wait for the Travelling Iceland vehicle.

VOLCANO HIKE
The hike to the volcano is just about 1 hour each way. The hike is quite easy, with one steep slope. Experience the volcanic eruption up close and enjoy the greatest show on earth!

KLEIFARVATN LAKE
We will drive past the Lake Kleifarvatn, which is a Lake formed solely by plate tectonics and rifting of the earth crust, the Eurasian and North American plates away from each other.

SELTÚN, GEOTHERMAL AREA
Seltún is a beautifully coloured geothermal area. The geothermal activity brings to the surface bubbling mud pools and steaming ground and colourful solfataras. The beautiful colours are due to sulphur and white and yellowish brown sulphates are deposited.

OPTIONAL: DROP-OFF AT THE BLUE LAGOON
If you like to end your tour in the relaxing Blue Lagoon, we can drop you off there!
We can book a comfort ticket for you in advance and a bus ticket with the Blue Lagoon Destination Bus back to Reykjavik. Please let us know when you book the tour with us!

4:00 PM – REYKJAVÍK
